Women lead in camera purchases
Women are in the leading role now when it comes to camera ownership and digital photography, according to the PMA.
During 2007, women overtook males in all digital camera purchases, including cheap Digital SLR cameras, for the first time. This was according to the PMA association’s 2008 Digital Imaging Survey.
Women accounted for almost 60 percent of all digital camera purchases in 2007. The association also said that females are more likely than males to tend to take control of picture taking, sharing, and printing, and they are more likely to own DSLR cameras.
Males still purchased 50 percent of all DSLR camera models in 2007, although that percentage is down from previous years and with new, cheaper models aimed at various types of consumers that are more widely available as well as at more affordable prices, many more more females are and will continue to be inclined to replace regular, point-and-shoot digital cameras with Digital SLR models.
66 percent of U.S. homes now own a digital camera, according to PMA.
