Cheap Digital SLR Camera

Matsushita cheap digital SLR camera will target female consumers.

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd has unveiled what is to be the world's smallest digital SLR camera. The Lumix DMC-G1 model will start selling in Japan on October 31 for a cheap price, and it will also be available overseas in early November.

Separately, the company also has announced that it will change its name to Panasonic in October 1. Matsushita now currently markets the Lumix brand digital cameras.

The new Matsushita Lumix DMC-G1 SLR camera is almost 30 percent smaller than the current DMC-L10 SLR camera model. The digital camera weighs only 385 grams.

The small SLR camera will be equipped and packaged with lens and body for $840.

Cheap digital SLR cameras that are equipped with interchangeable lenses are the fastest growing camera models. They are also the most profitable products for the digital camera manufacturers. However, some compact camera users have been reluctant to buy SLR models because they are bulkier.

Currently, Matsushita is the world's seventh-largest digital camera maker with a 7 percent market share. The digital camera market is currently dominated by Nikon and Canon Inc.
