Cheap Digital SLR Camera

Digital SLR camera growth continues. Cheap models are the top sellers.

According to market researcher IDC, the international digital SLR camera market grew an amazing 42 per cent during 2007 over the previous year. Compare this to just 23 percent growth for standard digital, compact point-and-shoot cameras.

Nikon, one of the leading DSLR camera manufacturers, reported that shipments of its SLR digital cameras increased by over 48 per cent during the company's last fiscal year (ending March 2008) compared to the year prior.

Many experts say that digital SLRs cameras have caught on among amateurs because they are intuitive to use, they feature various automatic settings for consumers intimidated by the manual options, and they have a much  smaller learning curve than in the past. Also, some of today's DSLRs come standard with point-and-shoot features that are familiar to consumers. An example being a preview of the photo on the SLR camera's LCD screen.

Falling prices are also a big factor driving sales. There are now many cheap digital SLR camera available. For example, you can now buy some digital SLRs, with a kit lens, for under $700. This fairly cheap price is within the budgets of many families.

While the image quality of SLR cameras is better and you can interchange lenses, still many say that the biggest shortcoming with digital SLRs is the fairly large size.
