Cheap, inexpensive digital SLR sales are increasing
This growth in sales is being driven by second and even third time camera buyers who are upgrading from the standard “point and shoot” digital cameras to these more powerful and sophisticated models, With an average price of a DSLR camera at about $800, fatter profit margins, and a healthy accessory market, DSLRs have been a boon to the bottom line of the manufacturers, in particular Nikon and Canon.
The margins are also helped by the fact that Nikon and Canon don’t need to develop new technology for DSLRs. They only need to adapt the technology originally developed for their other digital cameras.
The price of Digital SLRs continue to drop as well, and cheap models are helping drive sales.
