Canon Rebel EOS XS 1000D Digital Rebel
Pros, cons, and comments from reviews pulled across from the Internet on the Canon Rebel XS EOS 1000D.
Pros : Very high quality images. Canon’s lightest digital SLR to date. Live view mode. The Canon SX comes with image stabilization, which the earlier entry level Canon’s did not, but it is not in-body. The XS shoots at 3 frames per second. The XS 1000D battery will last about 50 percent longer than the Xsi.
Cons : The Canon has a maximum ISO of only 1600. No in-body mechanical stabilization. Lack of a spot meter. Lower number of auto focus points.
Comments : This model is version created to serve the market one tier below the Canon EOS 450D. It looks exactly like the EOS 400D. The strongest feature of the Canon Rebel EOX XS is the image quality, and it produces very high quality images.
Additional comments on this cheap digital SLR :
-Low-light performance of the Canon 1000D was very good. Photos taken at ISO 1600 had accurate color and were sharp with only a hint of noise. However, this minimal noise was eliminated with the high ISO noise reduction setting. Long exposure noise reduction did produce very little image softening.
-The new Canon EOS 1000D / Rebel XS is a modest upgrade over some of it predecessors, however in terms of AF points, it is actually a downgrade. But Canon thinks that new budget Digital SLR buyers greatly value the presence of Live View and image stabilisation, both of which come with this Canon. And unlike its competitor Nikon, it means that Canon offers Live View on all its consumer DSLRs models.
From the manufacturer:
The Rebel XS will come with the DIGIC III image processor as well as Live View mode. Other features include 4-stop image stabilisation for the highest quality performance in every lighting condition. The model also comes with and a 2.5-inch LCD display. The unit will also be pre-installed Digital Photo Professional imaging software. There is also a 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, and a 7-point autofocus,
Canon is marketing this cheap digital SLR as the perfect entry point to the world of DSLR cameras.
The camera weighs in at a very light 450g, which ranks the Rebel XS as Canon’s smallest and lightest DSLR model to date. There is an easy to use menu, and it allows control over secondary direct devices.
