Domestic shipments of all digital cameras produced by Japanese manufacturers rose by 3.9 pct year on year to 780,470 units in May, a trade group reported on July 1st.
Of the total sales, shipments of digital single-lens reflex cameras, which includes cheap digital SLR cameras, expanded an amazing 35 % to 95,737 cameras. On the other hand, those of standard compact cameras rose a mere .5% to 684,733 units.
By region, exports to Europe increased over 25% to almost 3.3 million units. Meanwhile, those to North America rose by “only” 23 pct to over 3.5 million cameras. Camera exports bound to the balance of Asia soared to almost 40% pct to 1.8 million units.
